Accomplishments

Alabama's First Dual Language Immersion Program

Worked with educators to launch the state of Alabama's first-ever Dual Language Immersion program to improve academic outcomes, cultural awareness, and cognitive skills of young learners.  

Harvard Public Education Leadership Project

Completed the Public Education Leadership Project at Harvard University, collaborating with district and national leaders to advance post-secondary preparedness throughout BCS.

District 6 Schools Removed from Priority List

Championed improvements in literacy - supported classroom aids, after-school learning, high dosage tutoring, and personally tutored  1st - 5th grade students in District 6 where schools have had record improvements and are no longer on the state's priority list

Birmingham Youth Sports League

Served on Advisory Board for creation of Birmingham Youth Sports League for the City of Birmingham Mayor's Office to make youth sports equitable and accessible for all children in Birmingham.

Babysitter Certification for Middle Schoolers

Forged partnership with UAB's School of Nursing and Department of Nutrition Sciences to equip students with babysitter certification and life skills.

"Green Our Planet" Hydroponics Lab

As a Project Corporate Leadership graduate, partnered with corporate stakeholders to fund the first Green Our Planet hydroponics lab in a District 6 middle school

Adoption of District 6 Schools

Connected with local churches and nonprofit organizations to initiate and strengthen adoption of District 6 schools. Led to community organizations sponsoring teacher appreciation events, holiday giveaways for families, arts-therapy and school supplies for scholars, and resources for end of year celebrations.  

Community Schools Model in District 6

Worked with National Education Association, Birmingham City Schools district leaders, and principals to implement community schools model to better meet educational and social needs of scholars. 

Conflict Resolution Programming

Initiated partnership with City of Birmingham and Birmingham Municipal Court to pilot H.E.A.T. curriculum in Birmingham City Schools to improve conflict resolution.

Mentorship and Motivation

Motivated high school scholars at Women Wednesdays, senior breakfasts, and senior baccalaureate services. Led community service projects with seniors. Provided professional development for middle and high school scholars.
